Lady Superstar Nayanthara has been aggressively promoting her recent outing Connect, which is directed by Ashwin Saravanan, who had earlier directed her in the horror film, Maya (2015). The film, which also stars Vinay Rai, Sathyaraj and Anupam Kher is bankrolled by her husband, producer and director Vignesh Shivan. The actress today also attended the FDFS of the film in two theatres in Chennai. She also attended the special screening which was held on Monday
It is to be noted that Nayanthara had also promoted the romantic comedy Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kadhal, which starred Vijay Sethupathi and Samantha as the leads along with her. Interestingly, the film, too, was helmed by Vignesh Shivan and was bankrolled by his production. However, the promotions for her last release, O2, a survival thriller directed by GS Viknesh, were quite low key compared to the aforementioned films. As criticism galore that Nayanthara has been promoting films only bankrolled by her home production, Nayanthara has come out and explained why she has skipped film promotions in the past.
In fact, late actor-comedian Vivekh and a few others in the industry too, had once criticised the leading ladies for skipping the film promotions. The actress has now stated that the leading ladies were not given their due during the promotions and that was one reason why she had stopped attending the promotional events. She also stated that both the leading man and the lady of a film should be given equal importance.
The actress also spoke about her 20-year journey in films. She stated that she was sometimes in disbelief when she realised that she had been in the industry for two decades. She stated that she began her acting career when she was barely 18 and then she just went with the flow. After a certain point, she dreamt that she wanted her name to be etched in the industry with her work.
