Constellation, the sci-fi psychological thriller led by Noomi Rapace as an astronaut back from the International Space Station back on earth and experiencing a ‘different reality’, had ended its Season 1 run in March this year.
The 8-episode show, which also starred Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul star Jonathan Banks, James D’Arcy, Julian Looman, William Catlett and Barbara Sukowa, among others, had received mixed reviews, with the multiple realities not infusing much excitement. The show’s ratings were not very promising eventually, forcing the streamer’s hand. Apple TV+ has cancelled Constellation after only 1 season.
Constellation had Noomi Rapace as astronaut Johanna Ericsson, on a mission aboard the International Space Station, when they have a collision with a mystery object, as a result of which they lose a team member, while all but one leave on a rescue pod. Left behind to retrieve whatever was left of a NASA experiment aboard the station, Johanna also manages to return home. But has she returned to her home after all?
Amid concerns for Johanna’s mental health, given her claims that a dead astronaut’s floating body was the projectile that collided with the station, it is revealed that there are at least two realities. One in which Johanna returns home, another in which she dies and her colleague Paul is the one back on earth. The dead astronaut in one is leading a space programme studying astronaut burnout in another.
Constellation joins Apple TV+’s Schmigadoon, which was cancelled after two seasons. The streamer has, meanwhile, renewed Slow Horses and For All Mankind for a 5th Season, Hijack, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Criminal Record and The Last Thing He Told Me for a 2nd and Invasion for a 3rdthis year.
