Coolie, the 2025 Tamil action thriller starring Rajinikanth, has finally made its debut in theatres and is currently running in big screens across the world. However, the much-anticipated film has only brought disappointment among fans. Nevertheless, at the box office, Coolie has been having a successful run with the Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial inching towards Rs 200 crore milestone within a few days of release.

When Coolie was announced with Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj, the anticipations from Tamil cinema had heightened. But when the film released on August 14, the action thriller was sharply criticised and had unwelcoming reviews from critics. However, monetary wise, the film has been doing well at the box office, thanks to the opening day collections and the star-studded ensemble.
As per Sacnilk report, Coolie has collected Rs 193 crore so far, within India. The majority of shares come from the first day which brought in Rs 65 crore with major contribution coming in from Tamil. Though the film had a pan-Indian approach, thanks to cast from various industries, the film had capitalised the Independence Day weekend, but had to suffer from its A-certification, which did not allow children below 18 years to watch the film.

Coolie’s post-theatrical streaming rights have been bagged by Prime Video. For the existing OTTplay Premium subscribers, Prime Video is available as top-up option. The action thriller is expected to stream sometime towards end of September.
Coolie features Nagarjuna, Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Rachitha Ram, Aamir Khan, and others. The film revolves around a friend who comes to know of his old friend’s death and decides to investigate how he was met his demise, through which he finds about a dangerous smuggling syndicate. The film has music by Anirudh Ravichander and produced by Sun Pictures. Coolie is not an LCU film, and marks the first time Lokesh is directing Rajinikanth.
