Following its theatrical release on August 4, Lukman Avaran-starrer Malayalam comedy film Corona Dhavan is finally out on an OTT platform. The film, directed by CC Nithin, revolves around a few alcoholics in a village. Set in the backdrop of the Covid-19 lockdown period, Corona Dhavan also features Sreenath Bhasi, Sruthy Jayan, Johny Antony, Irshad Ali and Seema G Nair in key roles. The film, scripted by Sujai Mohanraj, is now available to stream on Saina Play.
Corona Dhavan’s plot
Corona Dhavan is a comedy film that depicts the confusion and chaos ensuing in a village after a lockdown is imposed during the pandemic. The sudden unavailability of alcohol during the lockdown period affects the drunkards in the village. The only source of alcohol for them is Vinu (Lukman), who had stored a few bottles of booze for his sister’s wedding, which too got postponed due to the lockdown. Now, Vinu becomes the last resort for the villagers to get drunk, and the film follows their efforts to obtain alcohol.
Why you must watch Corona Dhavan on OTT
Even though the storyline is quite predictable, the occasional slapstick humour and situational comedy make Corona Dhavan a delightful watch. The incredible performance by the lead actors - Lukman, Sarath, Sreenath and Johny - is the highlight of the film, which centres on alcoholism. The narrative is more comical than preachy. Meanwhile, the technical side of Corona Dhavan also elevated a mediocre storyline to a visually engaging flick.

In a recent interview with Cue Studio, director Nithin said that Corona Dhavan has similarities with the teenage comedy drama film Jo and Jo. According to him, Jo and Jo was the first Malayalam film to attempt comedy during the Covid-19 pandemic. However, Nithin added that Jo and Jo portrayed the situation during the second lockdown, but Corona Dhavan is set against the backdrop of the first lockdown.
