Corona Papers OTT rights bagged by this leading platform, here’s when to expect Shane Nigam-starrer’s release

Veteran filmmaker Priyadarshan’s latest thriller Corona Papers, which has Shane Nigam, Shine Tom Chacko and Siddique in the lead, hit theatres in Kerala on April 6. The movie’s OTT rights have also been sold to a leading platform, which is expected to drop the movie in May.

The film, which is also scripted by the Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham director, has certain elements that are inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s Stray Dog, which is a police mystery film about a service revolver that gets stolen and ensuing crime spree that gets unravelled when the detectives go in hunt of the gun.

The Malayalam movie has Shane Nigam essaying the role of a rookie police officer, whose gun gets stolen in a bus, and how this sets about an investigation by him and his superiors. However, soon things take a turn when the same gun is used in a bank robbery that also resulted in the death of an employee. How the culprits try to maintain their cover by carrying on their routine activities, while the cops run from post to pillar to catch them form the plot of this riveting film.

In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Priyadarshan said he had been contemplating making a film on the subject for the past eight years but couldn’t find the right twist for it till last year. The director also explained that it was a deliberate move to cast actors whom he hadn’t worked with before.

“When I am working with a new set of actors, it also gives a new look to my film,” he said. “A lot of people told me that today’s generation don’t listen to veteran filmmakers. I was at ease working with these new boys, almost as comfortable as working with Mohanlal. People say they have different attitudes, ways of thinking and working; but I didn’t find any of that. They were good to me and I worked as if I was working with my own children.”

Corona Papers’ OTT rights have been bought by Disney+ Hotstar, which is expected to begin streaming the film in May.
