Cricketer Pravin Tambe was ‘surprised’ when he heard of his biopic

The story of Pravin Tambe, who made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut at the age of 41, will soon be out on Disney+ Hotstar. Actor Shreyas Talpade plays the cricketer in the biopic directed by Jayprad Desai. In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, the cricketer shared he was ‘surprised’ when he heard that a biopic on him was being made. Check out the training video at the link below. 

I was surprised and I only told them ‘I want to play'. When I played the IPL for the first time, I received several questions after that. People used to message me that they also want to play at 41, so my concern was how should I convince them [that] I was not playing cricket thinking that I am 41. I was playing because I am passionate about it. So, then I thought people would be inspired by me through this movie (sic), he said.

In the same interview, Talpade said that Tambe’s story has been a “huge inspiration” for him and even he believes that there is no “expiry date” on dreams. Kaun Pravin Tambe promises a “unique insight” into the life of the leg spinner, who got his big break with Shilpa Shetty Kundra’s team Rajasthan Royals.

The trailer, which dropped on March 10, shows Tambe’s passion for cricket and how he became Rahul Dravid’s mentee. 

Written by Kiran Yadnyopavit, the film also stars Parambrata Chattopadhyay, Ashish Vidyarthi, Anjali Patil, Chhaya Kadam and Arun Nalavade.

When Tambe was young he dreamt of becoming a fast bowler but his Orient Shipping captain Ajay Kadam asked him to bowl leg-spin. And the rest is history. For a man, who never represented his city, who never got a chance to play 1st class cricket, this magical turnaround at this age was simply magical.

Kaun Pravin Tambe is backed by Fox Star Studios, Friday Filmworks and Bootroom Sports Production. His magical journey will premiere on April 1 on Disney+ Hotstar in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
