Cynthia Nixon, who played Miranda Hobbes in the long-running HBO series Sex and the City, reprised her role in the recent revival And Just Like That. However, her storyline has not been well liked by the original show's fans.

In the revival, Miranda has an impassioned affair with Che Diaz (Sara Ramirez), a widely disliked character, and then later splits with her husband Steve (David Eigenberg). For SATC loyalists, Miranda's arc was unexpected, messy and led to the internet criticising as well as analysing this ruthlessly.

Nixon, in an interview with Vogue, believed this reaction to be "bizarre." "First of all, I think Miranda is brave, and I think Miranda is charging forward. She doesn’t know where she’s going exactly, but she knows she has to go somewhere. And I think that’s always been true of Miranda, right? Miranda’s very smart and she’s very tenacious, but the idea that she’s level-headed — she’s never been level-headed! She’s a loose cannon, a very opinionated loose cannon. She’s always been a bull in a china shop and losing her temper and blowing things up then having to backtrack when she calms down," she said.

The actor also called Miranda's journey in And Just Like That "incredibly brave." She added that when SATC was out first, it wasn't well liked but "now, of course, it’s part of the culture, it’s enshrined." She noted that the audience were expecting the characters to be "tame and benign" but that was never the intent of the original show or the new one.

Nixon said that And Just Like That is more than just about "[being] footloose and fancy-free women shopping and having sex." She concluded that if the fans are looking for the SATC experience, they should go back and catch the reruns.
