Kannada filmmaker Tharun Sudhir has had a long association with Darshan Thoogudeepa. The duo are both second generation actors, the sons of erstwhile Kannada villains Sudhir and Thoogudeepa Srinivas, respectively. They’ve collaborated as actors and when Tharun moved behind the camera, he directed Darshan in a pivotal cameo in Chowka and then twice more in Roberrt and Kaatera, Tharun and Darshan were a winning formula, so to say, which is also why they were set to collaborate again.
Tharun had, in the past, begun scripting a film on the life of freedom fighter Sindhura Lakshmana and while it is not clear if their next was to be this historical, the filmmaker is bullish that he’s not dropped plans of a future collaboration with the embattled star.
Darshan is currently in judicial custody in connection with the murder of Chitradurga-resident Renukaswamy, who was, allegedly killed at the actor’s behest. The Challenging Star is said to have instructed a few of his fans to lure Renukaswamy to Bengaluru to school him about his incessant vulgar messages to the actor’s partner of 10 years, Pavitra Gowda, which took an irrevocable turn. Renukaswamy succumbed to the injuries he sustained during this. Darshan is accused number 2 in the case.
The actor was in the midst of shooting for his 57th film Devil, directed by Prakash Veer, when he was arrested on June 10. The actor is said to have a few films lined up, with the one with Tharun to be the 59th. Tharun, as it turns out, is not willing to give up on the project. While he expressed anguish at the pain the family of Renukaswamy has been enduring, he added that there is equal, if not more, suffering in the actor’s household too.
But what Tharun was also emphatic about is that no matter how long it takes, when Darshan is out and is ready to work on the film, #D59 will happen.
