Is actor-producer Daali Dhananjaya stepping into the political arena? This was the big question on Friday evening, as news broke that the ruling party in Karnataka has approached the actor with a proposal to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha election from Mysuru. The party leadership, including chief minister Siddaramaiah is believed to have spoken to Dhananjaya about the same, but he is yet to revert and has not indicated if he is interested or not.
The current Mysuru MP is Pratap Simha, a former journalist, who is extremely popular in his constituency, and belongs to the party at the centre. Dhananjaya, who is a very popular actor and has spent much of his growing years in Mysuru, also has a connect with the Heritage City, which is what the party that has approached him is looking at capitalizing on.
While Dhananjaya is quite socially conscious, a plunge into politics at a time when he is very busy with his acting assignments is unlikely. The actor has a bunch of exciting projects in Kannada, including former Colors TV business Head Parameshwar Gundkal’s directorial debut, Koti, Rohit Padaki’s two-part gangster flick Uttarakaanda, which marks the return of Ramya to cinema, Badava Rascal director Shankar Guru’s Anna From Mexico.
Dhananjaya will also be seen in Telugu actor Satyadev’s movie Zebra, besides returning to reprise his character in Allu Arjun’s Pushpa -2. The actor also has commitments as producer, having announced two new films. His fourth production, Vidyapati, will yet again star his pal Nagabhushana in the lead. As a fifth venture, Dhananjaya has announced a film called Judicial Custody with actor Prakhyath as the protagonist.
Dhananjaya remains committed to his promise of ensuring that his banner, Daali Pictures is a platform for new talent, either on the technical side, in front of the camera or both. With so much going for him on the career front, it would be interesting to see if he decides to test waters on the political front.
