Daali Dhananjaya, who turned producer with last year’s Badava Rascal, had announced a second venture, a biopic of former gangster, the late MP Jayaraj, based on a book by former gangster-turned-media man Agni Sreedhar. Dhananjaya plays Jayaraj in the film directed by Shoonya, which has been set in the Bengaluru of the 60s, 70s and 80s. The story, script and screenplay of Head Bush is credited to Sreedhar. Head Bush is based on Sreedhar’s published account of his time in the underworld, called ‘My Days In The Underworld’.

Head Bush focuses on Jayaraj’s rise to power in the 60s and 70s, for which the team, led by artiste-production designer Baadal Nanjundaswamy, recreated that era in Mysuru and Kolar. The film has music by MR Charan Raj and cinematography by Sunoj.

The shoot of the film, which was launched in August last year, has now been completed. The team recently wrapped up the last schedule with a Kumbalakai pooja. To be released in two parts in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi, the first instalment is expected to hit theatres as early as September, as revealed by heroine Payal Rajput, the heroine of the film, during an Ask Me Anything session on social media. Head Bush also stars Crazy Star V Ravichandran, Loose Mada Yogi, Vasishta N Simha, Devaraj, Sruthi Hariharan, Raghu Mukherjee and Balu Nagendra among others.

Apart from Head Bush, Dhananjaya has also finished Once Upon A Time in Jamaligudda, Bairagee and Monsoon Raaga. The actor will also be seen in Jaggesh’s Thothapuri Chapter 1 and 2. He is now expected to start shooting for his second film with KRG Studios after their earlier collaboration Rathnan Prapancha, Hoysala, in which he plays a cop and will be paired with Badava Rascal co-star Amrutha Iyengar. Hoysala, incidentally, is Dhananjaya’s milestone 25th film and will have music by hitmaker S Thaman.
