Netflix debuted its crime series Dabba Cartel on Friday, which opened to positive reception. The series revolves around five women launching a tiffin service with a special ingredient close on the heels of an investigation into a pharma company.
As part of the promotions, Jyotika took part in an interview for which she was joined by her team. While speaking about her move to Mumbai, she said, “I am very much Punjabi at heart, now a Tamilian also. To be honest, I feel after 40, it is a better place for women here. They are diverse, well-written and more real. My character, Varuna, is complex and I haven't played a layered character before. I have done about 55 odd films in south, but this character gave me a whole new thing to perform which I have never done in the last 55 films.”
However, the actor also said she has no complaints about the south films either, and added that she wouldn’t have gotten such characters in the north at that time. “But today, very honestly being 40 plus, the way characters are written is extremely special, real and there is far more growth. I really hope and pray we see these shades in down south also.”
Jyotika also said that she would like to implement something like this down south as well, and be the change she asks for.
Dabba Cartel is now streaming on Netflix.
