Sonakhi Sinha is all set to take the OTT world by storm, with her upcoming digital debut in the web series Dahaad. The series also marks a special moment in the actress’ career for another reason as well, as Dahaad has been selected as the first ever Indian web series to be premiered at this year’s Berlin International Film Festival.
The series will premiere at the Berlinale and will compete in the Berlinale Series Competition. Previously, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Gangubai Kathiawadi, starring Alia Bhatt, also had its world premiere at the prestigious international film festival as well.
Dahaad is set against the backdrop of a small, quiet town in Rajasthan, which is rudely shaken awake from its reverie when a number of women are found dead in public bathrooms. Sub-inspector Anjali Bhaati and her colleagues are tasked with solving the curious case, which is at first deemed as suicide. But as her investigation intensifies, Anjali realises that a serial killer is on the loose, resulting in a game of cat and mouse between brutal killer and small town cop.
Sonakshi essays the role of SI Anjali. In addition to Sonakshi, the upcoming web series also features Vijay Varma, Gulshan Devaiah, and Sohum Shah in pivotal roles.
The series was created by Reema Kagti and Zoya Akhtar. Dahaad marks the duo’s latest collaboration together, after hits such as Talaash, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Gully Boy and Made In Heaven.
The upcoming web series is produced under the banners of Excel Media and Tiger Baby. Kagti has also directed the series, along with Ruchika Oberoi. Ritesh Shah, Mansi Jain, Sunayana Kumari, Karan Shah and Chaitanya Chopra have written the show along with Kagti.
Dahaad will premiere on Amazon Prime Video sometime this year. An exact release date is yet to be announced by the makers.
