Sudipta Chakraborty’s social media post on Monday evening initiated a controversy over Hoichoi’s new web series, Dakghor. With Suhotra Mukhopadhyay and Ditipriya Roy in lead, the series was directed by Abhrajit Sen. Dakghor gained appreciation from the viewers for its simple storytelling and for capturing the quarks of rural life.

Meanwhile, in her post on Monday evening, Sudipta sarcastically suggested her husband Avishek Saha is a ‘saint’. Without naming anyone or Dakghor in particular, her post suggested that Dakghor was Avishek’s ‘baby’ and was then taken away from him. Several people condemned the production house for their ‘unethical’ practice.

When we contacted Avishek, he refused to comment. He said, “I wanted to move on. This uproar is reminding me of the ordeal. I am happy that people are liking the show.”

According to sources, based on a borrowed concept, Padmanabha Dasgupta penned the story, dialogues, and screenplay. Later, Avishek was commissioned by Hoichoi as the director. The production house did not approve the shoot. Even the reshoot by Avishek was rejected. Later. Abhrajit was commissioned by Hoichoi and he completed the shoot.

When contacted, Abhrajit said, “Hoichoi reached out to me and I was asked to direct the project. It was a commissioned work. I gave my best shot and people are liking it.”

In fact, during the postproduction, the platform reached out to Avishek to incorporate his name on the credit scroll. According to sources close to the industry, he refused. While talking to us, Avishek said, “I love to find stories of marginal people. In Uranchandi, I told their stories and in the future also, I will keep on telling their stories.”

Dakghor was released on February 24 and has so far received a warm reception from the audience.
