Bonny Sengupta and Koushani Mukherjee have started shooting their new film, Dal Bati Churma. Directed by Haranath Chakraborty, the film will also introduce Bonny and Koushani as a producer duo. The film went to the floors on Monday under the banner of BK Entertainment (Bonny-Koushani Entertainment).

As per reports, in the film, Bonny will be seen as a non-Bengali man. After dating a non-Bengali woman, his character has a breakup and Koushani, a Bengali girl steps into his life. The film is billed as a romantic comedy and the title suggests that it has a strong food connection.

In an interview with Anandabazar, Bonny said that the story revolves around two Kolkata-based households – a Bengali and a non-Bengali. His character is a Rajasthani man who lives in north Kolkata and Koushani plays the character of a Bengali girl from south Kolkata. “Naturally, they are poles apart. The film delves into the fights and makeup between two families. It is an out-and-out comedy. Hence, food is used as the marker of cultural differences between the families,” he explained.

The shooting will take place between north and south Kolkata. As per reports, there are possibilities of a Rajasthan schedule. The film also features Rajatava Dutta and Kharap Mukhopadhyay.

After directing multiple blockbuster films, Haranath has stepped into a different genre. He made intense dramas like Dharasnan and others. He has recently worked with Ranjit Mallick also. The director was scheduled to work on another film with Ranjit.

Meanwhile, after their rumoured rifts, Bonny and Koushani are all geared up with multiple releases. Besides, Dal Bati Churma, they are also working in Prarjun’s Antarjal and Rohan Sen’s Bijaya Dashami. Antarjal is a woman-centric film that delves into the life of a writer, Lahari. Her husband goes missing on the night of their first anniversary. Billed as a thriller, the film is produced by Mukesh Pandey. Meanwhile, the duo will share the screen with Kaushik Ganguly and Churni Ganguly’s family drama Bijoya Dashami.
