Netflix released the teaser of 1899, a period show by the creators of the superhit German series Dark, on Monday. Shrouded in mystery, the series could be a worthy follow-up to their mind-twisting sci-fi series, which concluded last year.

The teaser – which shows a ship in the middle of the sea on a foggy night – is eerily reminiscent of Dark. A statement from Netflix about 1899 reads, “The series revolves around a migrant steamship heading west to leave the old continent from London to New York. The passengers, a mixed bag of European origins, are united by their hopes and dreams for the new century and their future abroad. When they discover another migrant ship adrift on the open sea, their journey takes an unexpected turn. What they find onboard will turn their passage to the promised land into a horrifying nightmare.”

Baran Bo Odar, one of the creators, also shared photos of the cast posing in the 19th-century look on the deck of the ship. “What really made us connect to this idea was the concept of having a truly European show with a mixed cast from different countries. At its heart is the question of what unites us and what divides us. And how fear can be a trigger for the latter,” said the makers, in the statement.

Aneurin Barnard (Dunkirk) and Anton Lesser (Game of Thrones) are also reportedly part of the cast that includes Miguel Bernardeau, Maciej Musial, Lucas Lynggaard Tonnesen, Rosalie Craig and Clara Rosager.
