Alia Bhatt’s black comedy thriller titled Darlings is only a few days away from its release and the movie’s cast and crew are busy promoting the Netflix movie. Shefali Shah, who plays a pivotal role alongside Alia in the movie, has now said that Darlings does not try to spoon-feed the audience.

“It’s unfair to undermine viewers’ intelligence. We don’t need to spoon-feed them. They understand and pick up on the smallest things,” the actor said as reported by Mid-Day and also pointed out that the lack of good satires in Hindi cinema is a reflection of filmmakers’ fear of experimentation rather than the taste of the audience.

Stating that the movie is “very well” written, she said that for the comedy to work, there still needs to be a good chemistry between the actors. She further said that this chemistry is organic and that it was easy to work with Alia because they were on the same page.

Darlings has Shefali play a mother who supports her child as she abducts her husband after being a victim of domestic abuse. The two will have to go through unfavourable circumstances and some tricky situations as they carry out their mission.

Marking the full feature film debut of Jasmeet K Reen, the movie also stars Vijay Varma, and Roshan Mathew in important roles. The movie is produced by Gauri Khan, Alia Bhatt and Gaurav Verma and is set to start streaming on Netflix from August 5.

Shefali Shah, who started off the year with the series Human (Disney+ Hotstar), was also seen in Jalsa (Prime Video). The actor has the second season of the Netflix series Delhi Crime in the works.
