Yet another star-studded project has found its way onto Netflix’s platform. It was announced that the streaming giant has bagged the rights to the upcoming film, Darlings, which features Alia Bhatt and Shefali Shah in lead roles.
Earlier, there had been reports that Netflix and Zee5 were in talks to secure the rights to the upcoming film. According to a report by Pinkvilla, the former had paid a sum of Rs 80 crore for the film’s exclusive streaming rights. The upcoming movie, which is in its post-production phase at the moment, is expected to premiere on Netflix soon.
Darlings is touted to be a black comedy film revolving around the relationship between a mother and daughter, belonging to a conservative, lower middle-class family. While Bhatt essays the role of the daughter, Shah will portray her mother. In addition to Shah and Bhatt, the film, which had wrapped up filming in September last year, also features Vijay Varma and Roshan Mathew in pivotal roles.
The film will mark Bhatt’s first project as a producer. She will bankroll the film under her Eternal Sunshine Productions banner. Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment will also produce the film. The movie, which began shooting in July last year, is directed by Jasmeet K Reen, with its music being composed by Vishal Bhardwaj.
Meanwhile, Bhatt also has a string of highly anticipated films awaiting release including Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi, S. S. Rajamouli’s RRR, Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmāstra and Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani.
On the other hand, Shah, who was recently seen in the Disney+ Hotstar series Human, will also make an appearance in the Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Doctor G.
