Kiccha Sudeep’s two-day tournament, Kannada Chalanachitra Cup (KCC), had the who’s who of Sandalwood either playing for or supporting the six teams that were a part it. Among the major names who stayed away were Yash and Darshan. The former has, in fact, been a part of the tournament earlier. But Darshan’s absence is being attributed to the fact that he and Sudeep do not get along anymore.
Back in 2011, after Darshan served a brief jail sentence in a domestic abuse case, Kiccha Sudeep was among the few who immediately extended a friendly shoulder to lean on. The two became thick as thieves for a while. It was around this time that Sudeep even convinced Darshan to be a part of the Karnataka Bulldozers team at the Celebrity Cricket League. But then like all good things, this friendship too had to end, and it ran its course quickly.
When Sudeep recently announced the revival of KCC after a two-year break because of the pandemic, he was asked by the media if he would call everyone from the Kannada industry to be a part of it and his reply was that he would and that it was up to each individual to decide whether to join in or not. In fact, in this edition of the tournament, participation was even more pertinent because it was being conducted as a tribute to the late Puneeth Rajkumar, with the jerseys of every single team sporting his image.
While Sudeep did not specify names of stars who had been approached, it would be prudent to take him for his word that he indeed reached out to everyone. On the day of the tournament, which was a grand success, a video of Darshan playing a game of cricket with his buddies somewhere in Madikeri began doing the rounds. While a video of the actor indulging in a spot of fun is not a major deal, the timing of the video is – it was sent out on February 25, in what some netizens feel is meant to be a slight to Sudeep.
