Has Challenging Star Darshan cut all ties with the late Rebel Star’s family? At least that’s the indication...

The big news in Sandalwood circles was that Challenging Star Darshan, who was following a sum total of 6 people only on social media, removed everyone, which, interestingly, included actress-politico Sumalatha Ambareesh and her son, Abishek. Shortly after Sumalatha’s Instagram stories included a post that read, “And the Oscar for best acting goes to… those who twist the truth, hurt people without remorse, shift the blame, and somehow still see themselves as the hero.”
Put together, this seemed like an open declaration that all is not well between the two families. Since returning home on bail in the Renukaswamy murder case, Darshan has been confining himself to a close group of family and friends only. In fact, at a recent get-together at his place, actors Dhanveeraah, Rachita Ram and Rakshita Prem were the only ones from the film industry to be on the guest list. It is speculated that Darshan has only been in touch with those who stood by him and his family through thick and thin.

Once news broke of this social media development, Sumalatha issued a clarification that an unnecessary controversy was brewing regarding her IG story. She said that it was not targeted at anyone in particular, but only a “general observation”. She added that she realized Darshan had unfollowed her only after news media outlets picked it up. “I don’t understand why this is being projected as something else. It’s his personal choice and let’s respect that,” she wrote.
In the past, Darshan has always been vocal about his close association with Ambareesh’s family, referring to Sumalatha as ‘Mother India’. She has also said that he was her elder son, while Abishek was the younger one. Although she has dispelled any rumours of a rift between the families, industry sources say that all’s not well between them.
Meanwhile, Darshan who was initially granted bail on medical grounds, supposedly owing to back issues that require surgery, has resumed work on his film Devil, directed by Prakash Veer, which was halted when he was arrested in June last year, in connection with the death of a fan, Renukaswamy, allegedly at the behest of the actor and his long-time partner, Pavitra Gowda. Darshan was last seen onscreen in Kaatera.
