Telugu star Nani was in Kochi while most of the country celebrated RRR’s Oscar win on Monday. Not surprisingly, the actor was flooded with questions about working with SS Rajamouli and also his reactions about the Academy Award win for Naatu Naatu, during the promotions of his latest movie Dasara at UC College, Aluva.

The actor kicked off the function by congratulating the team of RRR as well as sharing a video with the hundreds in attendance, wishing Rajamouli, MM Keeravani and team, in their hour of victory.

Nani also recalled how his film with Rajamouli, Eega, was special to him as an actor – especially in terms of how it made him popular with the audience outside the Telugu states. “It’s a very special film to me because it brought me closer to (the audience). Before Eega, only Telugu audiences knew me, but post its release, people everywhere own me as one of their own. Compared to other movies, I worked less in the film; I was there for only 35-40 minutes and had shot for 22 days. But every today the love lasts and the reason is Eega,” he said.

The actor also talked about what prompted him to do Shyam Singha Roy. “I am a big fan of reincarnation films like Karan Arjun and Magadheera, and I wanted to do a film that will be relatable in 2021. The film had me in extremely different roles because one was a Bengali revolutionary and the other was a filmmaker. It was extremely challenging, but I was ready to put in the effort,” said the actor. Incidentally, Nani’s co-star in the movie Sai Pallavi had shot for her debut film Premam in UC College too.

Nani’s upcoming movie Dasara, which is set to hit theatres on March 30, also has Keerthy Suresh, Shine Tom Chacko and Samuthirakani in pivotal roles. The film set against the backdrop of Singareni coal mines is helmed by Pushpa director Sukumar’s protégé Srikanth Odela.
