The social comedy drama Dasvi has been the talk of the town ever since it premiered last week on Netflix. The film, which features Abhishek Bachchan, Yami Gautam and Nimrat Kaur, opened to great reviews from the audience, especially for the performances of the cast. Apart from Bachchan and Kaur, Yami Gautam too has been heaping praises for her role as a police officer.
This is the first time that the Vicky Donor actor has essayed the role of a police officer and she walked away yet again with praise for her nuanced performance after 'A Thursday'. In fact, director Tushar Jalota even went on record to state how Yami Gautam was his first and only choice for this role.
Speaking about Yami's character, Jalota said in his statement that Jyoti is a head strong, brave, no-nonsense and a fearless woman. "She is razor-focused and is cuttingly sharp. She has steely authority, is fierce and is simply savage!! And Yami played it to the T. When we were casting for this role in Dasvi, I couldn’t imagine anyone else other than Yami Gautam playing Jyoti Deswal," he said. He added that Yami is someone who completely gets into the shoes of the character by thoroughly preparing for it; whether it’s looking the part or mentally getting into the headspace of the character.
The actor also worked on her Haryanvi dialect and accent and the director seems to be very impressed with the way she portrayed the character. "For a moment you forget it’s Yami on screen because all you can see is Jyoti Deswal, a strong, confident, no-nonsense female inspector. There is a practised hardness in Jyoti, that is her stated intent, but she has softer virtues (humility, gentleness, sympathy)," he said adding that Yami is a great team player and very supportive, which he says, makes her a 'terrific actor'. He ended his note by saying the actor deserves all the accolades coming her way for her performance in the film.
Meanwhile, Yami Gautam has several other projects in the pipeline. She has Anirudhh Roy Choudhary’s Lost, OMG2 with Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathy, Dhoom Dham and Maddock Films’ Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga.
