From the high-energy action sequences in the boxing ring to the emotional layer in the intriguing plot, here are the reasons as to why you should watch Daveed on OTT

Daveed plot

Antony Varghese stars as Ashiq Abu, who works as a bouncer for celebrities on and off. But in a fit of rage, he hits his high-profile client, a Turkish boxer, who then challenges him to a fight in the ring. This sets up the stage for a sports drama. But Govind Vishnu's film strives to be more, as it brings in a touching emotional layer, exploring a father-daughter relationship too.

Classic underdog tale

As Aashiq Abu, who practically lives in a slum with his wife and daughter, takes on a world-class champion boxer, we are given the classic David and Goliath tale in Daveed. The legendary tale gets a Malayalam adaptation that takes us to the narrow streets of Fort Kochi and even a boxing village.

Thrilling sports action

As it revolves around Abu, who was once a boxer, Daveed features several high-energy action sequences as champs fight it out in the boxing ring. The well-choreographed and edited action sequences are another highlight of the film, which is further supported by the performances of Antony Varghese and Mo Ismail.

Antony Varghese shoulders Daveed, whether it is by acing the action sequences or by fully investing in the emotional sequences. He has strived to do justice in every aspect, including his physique, which is also crucial for a boxing film. Lijomol Jose does full justice to her role as Abu’s wife in the film. The lead actor is well-supported by Saiju Kurup, Vijayaraghavan and Jess Kukku.

The technical department also deserves a mention as Justin Varghese’s engrossing music, Rakesh Cherumadam's editing, and Salu K. Thomas' slick cinematography go a long way in ensuring an engaging watch.

But that said, Daveed does make some missteps and could have been much better than what is delivered to us. Nevertheless, the Malayalam sports drama is worth your time as it lands on OTT this weekend.
