Dayaa on OTT: JD Chakravarthy’s web show has a connect with his landmark film Satya

Dayaa, the crime drama streaming on Disney+ Hotstar, has opened to glowing reviews from audiences and critics all around. Pavan Sadineni, known for films like Prema Ishq Kaadhal, Senapathi, web shows Pilla, Commitmental, has directed the series produced by SVF. JD Chakravarthy, Eesha Rebba, Ramya Nambessan play the lead roles in the show that has released this Friday.

This is by all means a dream comeback project for JD Chakravarthy in Telugu. The show has him playing the titular role as a freezer-van driver in Kakinada, who needs to overcome a traumatic past, while he deals with a corpse of a female journalist in his vehicle. What connects Dayaa to the journalist, a small-time nurse and a crooked politician? The series with a run time over 200 minutes spans eight episodes.

That’s not all, we all know that JD Chakravarthy’s game-changing Hindi film Satya was recently in the news for completing its 25th release anniversary. There are no similarities between Satya and Dayaa but for the fact that they are crime dramas dealing with the darker side to the society. Pavan Sadineni, in his own style, has paid a fond homage to Satya in the web series.

While JD Chakravarthy is referred to as Dayaa for a major part of the show, a key twist in the later episodes reveal that his original name is Satya and that he is known for his criminal activities in Odisha. The director has ‘revealed’ this subtly in the show and the second season, which is expected to be announced shortly, will deal with Satya’s past. The show intentionally conceals the events in the 2o-year-leap in his life.

After the web show, JD Chakravarthy has signed another plum project with the director in an out and out actioner; an official announcement about the same is expected shortly.
