Comedian-turned-actor Santhanam is gearing up for the release of his next film DD Next Level. The actor, who first appeared in spoof comedy shows on television, soon entered the silver screen as a comedian and in sidekick roles. However, after some films, Santhanam transitioned to as a lead actor and said that he will not be playing a comedian again. But in the recently announced STR 49, the audience will get to watch Santhanam and Silambarasan reunite. And here is why Santhanam agreed to go back on his word.

Santhanam on why he chose to act in STR 49

Santhanam will be reuniting with actor Silambarasan in the upcoming film STR 49. The announcement was made a few days ago. The Dhilluku Dhuddu star, who had previously renounced working as a comedian, has now gone back on his words to star in Silambarasan's film. In a recent interview, Santhanam revealed the reason.

“Honestly, I did not want to go back to doing comedy tracks, but STR is like a godfather in my life who gave me the opportunity in cinema. During DD Next Level function, he had said that he could not do a jolly film because for that, you need such a character to travel along in the script. He wanted to do such a film and I could not say no,” he said.

It is to be noted that it was Silambarasan who first introduced Santhanam to the big screen with his film Manmadhan, co-starring Jyotika, in 2004. It is about a serial killer who targets young girls. Subsequently, Simbu and Santhanam went on to star in films like Vallavan, Vaanam, and Osthe. All these films went on to become popular for Simbu and Santhanam’s comedy tracks and are available for streaming on OTTplay Premium.
