The world is not the same since Marvel Studios decided to drop details about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It feels like a thundering rain on what felt like a dry spell for the studio in the past two years. As we now move forward, before announcing the confirmed cast and the new title logo for The Fantastic Four, the studio took the world by storm with the first look teaser of Deadpool & Wolverine, also known as Deadpool 3. The movie stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in the lead and looks supremely promising based on the first look. However, the preparation for the same is going to be intense if the teaser was any hint at the massive world the movie holds.

If you are uninitiated, Deadpool & Wolverine marks a significant milestone as the film is set to merge the 21st Century Fox Universe of Marvel characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After the acquisition of Fox by Disney, the House Of Mouse finally has the rights to characters that were held by Fox. However, this also means that Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are all set to make their MCU debuts together, serving as torchbearers of the Fox Universe blending into the MCU. Yes, they will disrupt the status quo, as confirmed by the teaser.

But that is not the only concern here. While we knew Deadpool & Wolverine would have an entire list of Marvel characters joining the film, we were under the impression that it would be a fresh story with entirely new actors. However, the teaser has now confirmed that the studio has hired actors from the Fox universe to reprise their characters. That means now the films from the Fox universe also hold water in the MCU, including all the X-Men movies. So, below is a list of seven movies you need to watch before Deadpool & Wolverine, as per the teaser.

X-Men (2000)

Cast: Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, Halle Berry, James Marsden, and ensemble.

Director: Bryan Singer.

Streaming On: Disney+ Hotstar.

This is where it all technically began. The X-Men came into the live-action world with this movie, which introduced the world to the X-Men. It is also where we first met Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, and the world has not been the same around him ever since. This is also where we met our favorite characters for the first time and got to know them well.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)

Cast: Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, Liev Schreiber, Danny Huston, and ensemble.

Director: Gavin Hood.

Streaming On: Disney+ Hotstar.

Hugh Jackman and Wolverine are a massive part of Deadpool & Wolverine. This means everything that has Hugh playing the part in it is very important. X-Men Origins: Wolverine is actually where we met our Logan in a detailed way for the first time. We understood what the character is, what makes him, and why he is what he is. The movie, in a way, can help you understand the motive of this character well, and the anger that he walks around with. Bonus, it was the first time that we met Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, and that can help.

X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014)

Cast: Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, Halle Berry, Jennifer Lawrence, and ensemble.

Director: Bryan Singer.

Streaming On: Disney+ Hotstar.

Days Of The Future Past did more good to Wolverine than his origin movie. The Bryan Singer directorial saw the character beyond the angry brute and had many things to offer, making him a very multi-dimensional superhero. Here he was a leader who could be much more balanced and can give an entire team a direction to a winning day.

Deadpool (2016)

Cast: Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, T.J Miller, Karan Soni, and ensemble.

Director: Tim Miller.

Streaming On: Disney+ Hotstar.

This was the first time a studio was daring to have Deadpool in a live-action movie where he could star in an R-rated movie. Ryan Reynolds had his own standalone niche in the world, and the movie did wonders. There is no way you can go into Deadpool & Wolverine and not watch Deadpool first. This was the movie where we met the character in a much bigger way.

Logan (2017)

Cast: Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Dafne Keen, and ensemble.

Director: James Mangold.

Streaming On: Disney+ Hotstar.

The most emotional of them all. Back in 2017, we weren’t aware that Fox might get acquired by Disney, and we were all crying and in trauma over Wolverine’s death in 2017’s Logan. The movie left us all broken because we were not ready to bid goodbye to one of the most developed characters who has seen an entire journey through the films that came before it. While Logan is in a different timeline than Deadpool & Wolverine, there is still so much one needs to grasp from this one to know Wolverine well.

Deadpool 2 (2018)

Cast: Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, Morena Baccarin, Zazie Beetz, T.J Miller, and ensemble.

Director: David Leitch.

Streaming On: Disney+ Hotstar.

The mess we are about to see in Deadpool & Wolverine was actually triggered in Deadpool 2 where we saw Wade Wilson time travel, and we even saw Yukio and Negasonic Teenage Warhead fix Cable’s time-traveling device. So when the threequel is about to show us Merc With The Mouth travel through the multiverse, the sequel will have a lot to contribute to it.

The Marvels

Cast: Brie Larson, Iman Vellani, Teyonah Parris, and ensemble.

Director: Nia DaCosta.

Streaming On: Disney+ Hotstar. The last Marvel Cinematic Universe release has nothing to do with Deadpool & Wolverine directly, but one has to be reminded of the post-credit scene that gave us the first look at X-Men in the MCU. We met Beast and Binary in the post-credits, and Monica Rambeau was unconscious in a hospital in a time and space we are unaware of.

These films are compiled in reference to the teaser. Rumours also have that the movie has a reference to Fantastic Four too because Fantasticar was spotted on the sets. Once that bit it confirmed, even the Fantastic Four movies from the Fox timeline will be added to this list.
