After an extensive pre-production session in Kollam, Antakshari director Vipin Das has begun shooting his third directorial Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey, which has Darshana Rajendran and Basil Joseph in the lead.

The movie has Darshana playing the titular character and revolves around her character’s life from her birth till she is aged 23. Darshana will be seen essaying the character from the age of 14 onwards. Basil, meanwhile, plays her character’s husband.

In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Vipin had said that the movie, which will be a satire, will also serve as a “biopic of a middle-class Malayali women” and would have instances that women across the country could relate to – from the challenges and discrimination they face while growing up to the roles that the men have in their lives along with the hurdles they cause.

On choosing Kollam as its main location, the filmmaker, who had also helmed Saiju Kurup’s Antakshari and Gokul Suresh’s Mudhugauv, had said that the district has been home to several women-oriented issues as well as the cashew industry, which has a pivotal role in the movie.

Meanwhile, Darshana and Basil will be seen together in actor-director Vineeth Kumar’s upcoming mystery drama Dear Friend, which is set to hit theatres on June 10. The movie, which also has Tovino Thomas, Sanchana Natarajan, Arjun Lal and Arjun Radhakrishnan, revolves around a gang of friends in Bengaluru and an incident that alters their lives.

The film marks Darshana’s second theatrical release this year after the superhit Hridayam, which also had Pranav Mohanlal and Kalyani Priyadarshan. Meanwhile, Basil, who was last seen in Manju Warrier and Santosh Sivan’s Jack N’ Jill, has completed shooting for a slew of films including Sanju V Samuel’s sports drama Cup and P Sangeeth’s satire starring Dileesh Pothan, Indrans and a cow in lead roles.
