Tovino Thomas surprised a lot of people when he took to his social media page last week to reveal the first look poster of his film Dear Friend. The movie marks the reunion of the Minnal Murali team of Basil Joseph and Tovino Thomas, albeit as actors this time, and has a slew of young talents including Darshana Rajendran and Arjun Radhakrishnan.

Directed by actor-filmmaker Vineeth Kumar, the movie had wrapped up its production last year and was in fact shot right after Tovino finished working on Kaanekkaane and Kala. Here’s all we know about the upcoming film, which is slated for a theatrical release on June 10.

Dear Friend is a mystery drama

While Vineeth had earlier helmed the entertainer Ayaal Njanalla, featuring Fahadh Faasil and Divya Pillai in the lead, the Tovino-starrer is a mystery drama that revolves around a group of friends who are based in Bengaluru.

The movie is scripted by Suhas, Sharfu and Thanmatra actor Arjun Lal, who is also playing a pivotal role in Dear Friend. In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Vineeth told us that the movie revolves around the lives of a gang of friends and shows certain aspects that aren’t seen before in Malayalam cinema. “It’s a story that happens between these friends and how a mystery creeps into it,” he said.

A young and eclectic cast

The team had roped in a bunch of talented young actors to play the various characters in the film. While Tovino, Basil and Darshana have already shown their mettle in the past few years, Dear Friend will also give space for Tamil actress Sanjana Natarajan, who was seen in Sarapatta Parambarai last year, as well as Rocket Boys and Pada actor Arjun Radhakrishnan to make their marks in the industry.

Various locations outside Kerala

The film, which has Justin Varghese as its composer, was shot extensively in Bengaluru with a few portions in Mumbai and Kochi. With Shyju Khalid and Samir Thahir also onboard the film as co-producers with Ashiq Usman, the movie promises to be a visual treat.
