Dear Friend teaser: Tovino Thomas, Darshana Rajendran’s film is about those little moments between friends

The first teaser of actor-director Vineeth Kumar’s sophomore directorial Dear Friend didn’t give away much about the plot of the film, while it did hint at the little joys and mystery embedded in its story.

The teaser, which was released on social media on Wednesday, had its lead actors Tovino Thomas, Darshana Rajendran and Arjun Lal taking a stroll in the streets of what we assume in Bengaluru, where most of the movie is set.

Tovino’s character walks alone with Darshana and Arjun following him, talking among themselves about getting the former hitched with another friend Chinnu. Darshana then catches up with Tovino’s character as he tells her about the song that he has been listening to – a track that he had composed years ago. We then are left with a shot of Arjun’s character following the duo alone.

In an earlier interview with OTTplay, the movie’s director Vineeth Kumar told us that Dear Friend, which is set to hit theatres on June 10, is about a bunch of friends who are living in Bengaluru. How a mystery creeps into their lives is what the film is about, he said, adding that it will explore several facets of life in Bengaluru that have not been shown in Malayalam cinema so far.

The movie is a multi-starrer that also has Basil Joseph, Sanchana Natarajan and Arjun Radhakrishnan in pivotal roles. Scripted by Suhas, Sharfu and Arjun, the film is produced by Ashiq Usman, Sameer Thahir and Shyju Khalid.

Vineeth said that he was lucky to rope in “young and exciting talent” as part of his film, which he says will have Tovino’s “career-best” performance. The movie will mark Tovino’s second theatrical release this year after Naradan. The actor, meanwhile, also has Khalid Rahman’s entertainer Thallumaala gearing up for release.
