It’s a twin treat for fans of Tovino Thomas this June. The Minnal Murali star will have two back-to-back releases next month with Dear Friend and Vaashi, and the former’s trailer is all set to be launched online.
Dear Friend marks actor-turned-filmmaker Vineeth Kumar’s second directorial, after Fahadh Faasil-starrer Ayaal Njanalla. The movie, which also has Basil Joseph, Darshana Rajendran, Arjun Lal, Arjun Radhakrishnan and Sanchana Natarajan, had completed its shoot last year with Kochi, Mumbai and Bengaluru being its prime locations.
Scripted by Suhas, Sharfu and Arjun Lal, the movie is a mystery drama that revolves around a group of friends based in Bengaluru. In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Vineeth said, “The film will have a lot of elements about Bengaluru life that are hitherto unseen in Malayalam cinema.”
The movie’s release date was announced through a teaser a few weeks ago. Now, the makers are set to release its official trailer on May 25 at 6pm through Tovino’s official social media pages. The movie will hit theatres on June 10 and marks the actor’s second theatrical release this year after Aashiq Abu’s Naradan.
Tovino, meanwhile, has a busy year ahead. Vaashi, which has Keerthy Suresh as the female protagonist and is directed by actor-turned-filmmaker Vishnu G Raghav, will release on June 17. He will be following this up with Khalid Rahman’s Thallumaala, which is an all-out festive entertainer that could hit theatres in July or August. The movie, which was shot in Kerala and Dubai, has Kalyani Priyadarshan and Shine Tom Chacko also as part of the cast.
Tovino is currently shooting for Aashiq Abu’s Neelavelicham. The period drama, based on Vaikom Muhammed Basheer’s eponymous story, also has Rima Kallingal, Roshan Mathew and Shine Tom Chacko as part of the cast. He is next set to resume shooting for Jude Anthany Joseph’s film on Kerala floods.
