Death on the Nile, the mystery thriller based on Agatha Christie's novel of the same name, has been banned in Lebanon and Kuwait.

Deadline reports that the decision to prohibit the release of the film is due to actor Gal Gadot and her ties with the Israeli military.

The actor had served in the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) as is mandated by the government before going on to pursue a career in entertainment. She has also publicly supported the IDF and has been critical of the Palestinian Hamas militant group during the 2014 war in Gaza

The report adds that Lebanon had previously banned the release of her film Wonder Woman in 2017 after pressure from the group Campaign to Boycott Supporters of Israel-Lebanon. The follow-up Wonder Woman 1987 was banned last year in the country as well.

Agence France-Presse had earlier this week confirmed that Death on the Nile will not be screened in Kuwait following protests on social media.

Death on the Nile is directed by Kenneth Branagh who also stars as Belgian sleuth Hercules Poirot. Ali Fazal, Annette Bening, Russell Brand, Dawn French, Armie Hammer, Rose Leslie, Emma Mackey, Sophie Okonedo, Jennifer Saunders, and Letitia Wright form the rest of the cast.
