Death’s Game is one of the latest additions to the recently burgeoning genre of live action adaptations of webtoons. Though originally slated for a November release, the show will drop on December 15, 2023, on the South Korean streaming service TVING as well as Prime Video. The trailer was dropped on November 27, and revealed an electrifying sneak peek into the plot.
The story traces the story of depressed young man Choi Yi Jae, who has been unlucky both in love as well as in life. Neither does his ex-girlfriend want anything to do with him, nor does he have a job. And to top it off, he loses all his money in a Bitcoin scam. Having had enough of life, Yi Jae decides to kill himself.
However, this act of his enrages Death, personified as a tough, stunning goth-fashioned woman, essayed by Park So Dam, who decides to punish him by making him endure twelve lives and their respective, inevitable horrific deaths, before packing him off to hell. However, since Death is strict, not tyrannical, she offers a deal as well.
If Choi Yi Jae is able to survive any of the twelve deaths he has to endure, he gets to live on. Once indifferent to death, as Choi Yi Jae undergoes multiple reincarnations and deaths, ranging from burning, to being chopped apart, he begins to ponder on his actions. Finding purpose in his punishment, the series evolves into his struggle for survival.
