After his success in Anirban Bhattacharya’s Mandaar, Debashish Mondal is back in Klikk’s series Johny Bonny. In the project, he pairs up with Swastika Dutta to portray the character of a cop. Along with his journey, the film also delves into the life of a budding chess player. Produced by MilkyWay Films and Directed by Abhijit Chowdhury, Johny and Bonny is the 19th web series by Klikk.
Talking about his character, Debashish said that he found the character to be relatable. “I found similarities between my character Janardan Das, aka Johny, and in my real life. I partially share a similar experience, circumstances and philosophy. While we shot the series within a lot of constraints, I enjoyed the journey thoroughly. The story and the character are developed with direct inspiration from real life. Perhaps that’s the reason I could relate to the character,” the actor told us.
The story delves into the life of one Janardan Das, aka Johny, who is a rookie policeman. He dreams to be an investigating officer but ends up working as a security cover for an influential political leader named Promod Sen. Promod’s wife Suroma claims to love Johny like her own son. And despite the objection of Pramod, Johny gets to work primarily as a house helper in buying groceries for the family or taking their daughter's dog for his daily walk. Johny always has to lie to his wife Ankhi about his duty to keep his pride.
In the meantime, Ankhi's nephew, 13-year-old Bonny, runs away from his home in Durgapur and comes to Janardan's house to participate in a chess tournament in Kolkata. The relationship between Johny and Bonny is like Tom & Jerry. Johny is an old-school man who believes children must listen to the adults. Bonny is of the firm belief that in today’s world, children can be more intelligent and rational than adults.
Together, they get into a complex case. The series captures their journey.
