There is an increasing cultural interest in broken couples — the intensity of Blue Valentine or Marriage Story or more recently Scenes From A Marriage. (When the original 6-part Swedish show on which it is based released in 1973, there was an uptick in divorce) Indian stories too have been investigating the brokenness of marriages, most recently in Bombay Begums. Decoupled is a comedic addition to this genre.

Decoupled is a story of a separating couple played by Madhavan and Surveen Chawla. Arya Iyer and Shruti are a rich married couple from Gurgaon, with a daughter who now has to make sense of the changing dynamics.

Created and written by Manu Joseph (Serious Men), directed by Hardik Mehta (Kamyaab, Roohi), produced by Arya Menon, the show premieres on Netflix on December 17.
