Adrian Lyne’s latest directorial venture, Deep Water, will skip theatres and go for a digital release instead. The film was earlier scheduled to be hit theatres on January 14, 2022.
According to Deadline, streaming giants Hulu and Amazon Prime Video have bagged the rights to the thriller film. While United States audiences can view the film on Hulu, Amazon Prime Video will handle the film’s streaming in other territories. Release dates for the film are yet to be announced.
The film is based on Patricia Highsmith’s 1957 novel of the same name. The psychological thriller follows a couple, Vic (Ben Affleck) and Melinda (Ana de Armas), who are in an unhappy marriage. Unwilling to deal with the hassle of divorce, they decide to go for an open marriage and begin seeing other people. But when one of the people they were having an affair with gets murdered, the pair are left to deal with the consequences.
Deep Water also stars Tracy Letts, Rachel Blanchard, Dash Mihok, Lil Rel Howery, Jacob Elordi, Kristen Connolly, and Jade Fernandez.
The film is Lyne’s most recent directorial after a gap of almost two decades. The last film he helmed was 2002’s Unfaithful, starring Richard Gere and Diane Lane. The director is perhaps most well known for his 1987 film, Fatal Attraction, which featured Michael Douglas, Glenn Close and Anne Archer in lead roles.
