Shoojit Sircar’s 2015 slice-of-life flick Piku may have come off as quirky to some, but the film’s titular character—played by Deepika Padukone—made her way to the actress’s heart.

The film, which saw Amitabh Bachchan playing her father’s role and late actor Irrfan playing her love interest, witnessed Deepika sashaying around as an independent and confident young woman.

And it is for this very reason that she and her golfer sister, Anisha Padukone, think Piku is “special” and “relatable”.

She went on to explain that the film’s energy was very special and that both the sisters have now reached an age where they are “both Piku”.

“… The stage of life that I am at now, that seem to be my most favourite,” Deepika Padukone explained.

While all the actors rendered fine performances, the actress is of the opinion that theirs was a collaborative effort and that no one was trying to be better than the other.

“… don’t think Irrfan was trying to be one up on Mr Bachchan or he was trying to be one up on anyone,” she clarified, before adding that they were “invested in giving our best”.

Deepika Padukone also touched upon the issue of mental health and talked about her own battle with depression from a few years ago. While talking about the same, she urged people to speak up and seek help as the journey could be “lonely” otherwise.

Bollywood heartthrob Deepika Padukone will soon be seen with Shah Rukh Khan in Pathaan.
