Deepika Padukone redefined strong female characters in Indian cinema, feels her Project K costar Saswata Chatterjee

Deepika Padukone is one of the most talented, versatile, and charismatic actresses of Bollywood. She, even at the age of 37, is aging fine like wine. Nowadays, she is busy working on the sets of Project K – a film being directed by Nag Ashwin.

While fans are eager to see the starlet on the big screen soon, actor Saswata Chatterjee has heaped praises on his Project K costar Deepika Padukone for showing courage in challenging stereotypes and redefining the idea of “strong female characters” in Indian cinema.

“Through her performances, Deepika has shown that femininity and strength are not mutually exclusive but can coexist harmoniously. This balance has inspired other actresses to embrace their femininity, encouraging them to redefine the notion of a ‘strong female character’ in Indian cinema,” told Saswata to news portal The Telegraph.

For those unaware, Saswata is known for his portrayal of a serial killer called Bob Biswas in Sujoy Ghosh’s 2012 film Kahaani.

Saswata also recalled Deepika’s terrific performance in Bollywood movies such as Bajirao Mastani (2015), Chhapaak (2020) and Pathaan (2023). Saswata said, “Deepika has portrayed a diverse range of characters, each with their own complexities and struggles…she fearlessly takes on unconventional roles that defy traditional expectations. Her dedication to portraying such diverse and powerful characters has encouraged other actresses to venture beyond their comfort zones and explore uncharted territories.”

Clearly, Saswata is great fan of actress Deepika Padukone and her works.

While Deepika Padukone is already expected to feature in Nag Ashwin’s directorial Project K soon, she also has an action film titled Fighter in her kitty. In Fighter, Padukone will be seen opposite actor Hrithik Roshan on screen for the first time in history.

Deepika Padukone is in great limelight nowadays after her film, Pathaan, became a blockbuster after minting over Rs 1,000 crores at the box office globally.
