The Hollywood film, The Intern, was released in 2015. Starring Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro, the film is streaming on JioHotstar, accessible via OTTplay Premium. A Hindi adaptation of The Intern is on the cards, and Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan are expected to lead the film. However, a report suggests that Deepika has stepped away from her acting role in the film. Instead, she will solely focus on producing the film under her banner, KA Productions.

As per Mid-Day, Deepika Padukone has stepped away from her acting role in the Hindi adaptation of The Intern. She will now solely focus on producing the film. “This time, Deepika will step away from acting in the film to serve solely as a producer, overseeing the creative and logistical reboot. A new leading lady is being cast to play the part she was once slated to perform," the source added.
The source added that the new mommy is using this shift to expand her creative horizons. “The Intern is the first of five projects she plans to mount in the coming year. She is looking to tell stories that are globally relevant," it added.
For the uninitiated, initially, Rishi Kapoor was supposed to play the senior role, but the project remained without a lead character until Amitabh Bachchan came on board following the former's death. Despite the new announcement, filming did not begin due to the pandemic, Padukone's maternity leave, and schedule changes that delayed production.

Speaking about the film in 2020, Deepika had said that The Intern is an intimate, relationship-driven film, set in and around the workplace; a story that she believes is very relevant to the present-day social and cultural environment. "I have been looking for a light, breezy comedy-drama and this story fits in seamlessly. I cannot wait to begin this journey," she said.
According to Deepika’s 2021 Instagram post, the The Intern remake will be co-produced by Sunil Kheterpal with Warner Brothers India, Ka Productions and Azure Entertainment collaborating on the film. Amit Ravindernath Sharma was to direct the film.
