While there looks to be no end to the debate if running out a batter at the non-striker's end fits the "spirit of the game" module, it has, however, made a way into the MCC law book.

The recent uproar on this issue came after Indian women all-rounder Deepti Sharma ran out Charlie Dean to claim England’s last wicket. The wicket came after the batter, at the non-striker's end, had backed up that led to a controversy.

Dean was backing up when Sharma stopped in the middle of her bowling action and ran her out for 47 runs with the target just 17 runs away.

While this incident gave a rise to many saying even if it is in the rule book, it is against the spirit of the game with some even saying the bowler should have warned her.

Now speaking about the issue revolving around the legal and fair run-out, Deepti revealed that the team had repeatedly warned Dean.

"Ye plan tha hum logo ka, hum warn bhi kar chuke they unko, humne bas rule follow kiya (It was our plan because we had repeatedly warned her. We did what was in the rules)," Deepti had told reporters after landing in India.

"We had informed the umpires multiple times as well," she added.

Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who was also questioned about the same at the post-match presentation and press conference, said that her side did not commit a "crime.”

"Today whatever we have done I don’t think it was any crime," Harmanpreet said at the post-match press conference.

"It is part of the game and it is an ICC rule and I think we just need to back our player. I’m actually very happy she was aware of that, and the batter she is taking too long a stride I think. I don’t think she has done something wrong and we just need to back her."
