Delroy Lindo has signed on to join the cast of Marvel Studios' Blade, which stars Mahershala Ali as the titular human-vampire hybrid. According to Variety.com, Lindo is the first actor to join the ensemble after Ali announced the Blade reboot at the end of Marvel Studios' 2019 panel at San Diego Comic-Con. Bassam Tariq is directing the film, while Stacy Osei-Kuffour wrote the script.

Lindo's role in the film is still a mystery, but there's a strong possibility that he plays the role of Jamal Afari, who in the Marvel comics is the guy who reared and mentored Blade, also known as Eric Brooks, in the arts of vampire hunting when Eric was a child.

Jamal is Black in the comics, but the character was renamed Abraham Whistler and cast with white actor Kris Kristofferson in the 1998 movie adaptation of Blade starring Wesley Snipes.

Blade has yet to be given a release date by Marvel, but it is expected to hit theatres in the fall of 2023.

Talking about the upcoming Marvel film, Blade aka Eric Brooks, a human-vampire hybrid since his tragic birth, has dedicated his life to ridding the world of vampires like the one who murdered his mother. He's honed his own way of combating monsters of all kinds throughout the years.

Ali's voice was heard during one of the post-credit scenes in the recently released Marvel film, Eternals.

Lindo is fresh off yet another critically acclaimed work with Spike Lee, this time in Netflix's Da 5 Bloods. He also played Bass Reeves, the real-life lawman who inspired the Lone Ranger, in the western epic The Harder They Fall. The actor is scheduled to make his directing debut with the film Jabari's People, which is part of Neil Gaiman's Anansi Boys series on Amazon.
