Demon Slayer Hashira Training Arc took an interesting turn with Giyu Tomioka finally opening up to Kamado Tanjiro. The two share an interesting bond since Demon Slayer even commenced, and while they have come a long way, there are some moments you probably missed in the latest episode of the anime. Tomioka’s uniform is different from all other Hashiras and there’s a reason for that. It is actually, much like Giyu himself, a memory of his close ones that he keeps dear.
Giyu’s uniform is the only one with two patterns on them. This is because he remembers two of his closest people, who helped him become a Water Hashira, through the uniform. Yes, it is Tomioka’s tribute to those people. Who are they?
If you haven’t guessed it yet, it is Giyu’s childhood friend Sabito, who died in the battle and would have been the Water Hashira had the incident not occurred. Giyu dons a piece of Sabito’s uniform, on his right hand. The other part of his uniform is from a family member. Giyu remembers his sister by donning the same pattern as the kimono she wore often.
The two people have played an important part in shaping Giyu Tomioka as the Water Hashira, and the same was revealed in episode 2 of the Hashira Training Arc. Most missed the little detail that the makers ensured makes Tomioka who he is.
Giyu Tomioka is finally read to train the young Hashiras in water breathing style. That is what Tanjiro specializes in too. It was Tanjiro who was on a mission to get Tomioka to train all the young Hashiras. Throughout the episode, Tanjiro stuck to Tomioka, which led to the Water Hashira finally spilling the beans about why he thought he’s not deserving of the place he got. This is till Tanjiro reminded Tomioka that Sabito would have wanted better, and a gush of air hits Tomioka, almost like Sabito asking him to get it together.
Demon Slayer Hashira Training Arc is available on both Netflix and Jio Cinema in India (and Crunchyroll for anime lovers across the globe). The episodes are out on the platforms at 11.15 pm on Sundays.
