Netflix’s upcoming political action thriller, Beckett looks promising going by its trailer, with fast-paced action sequences and a gripping storyline. The movie stars John David Washington, who we all recognize from his lead role in Christopher Nolan’s Tenet. The whole movie revolves around Washington’s titular character, whose romantic vacation in Greece becomes a manhunt from which he has to escape.

Beckett is directed by Ferdinando Cito Filomarino and produced by Luca Guadagnino. The movie was originally titled Born to Be Murdered and later renamed. Recently, the movie was selected as the opening film for the 74th edition of Locarno Film Festival, Switzerland, where it will premiere on August 4.

Before Netflix releases further details about the movie, here is all we know about Beckett so far:

Netflix, on Wednesday, released the official trailer of Beckett. The trailer starts with John David Washington’s character spending a romantic vacation in Greece with his girlfriend. The trailer soon cuts to the scene of a car accident, after which Washington is being hunted down by mysterious people everywhere he goes. He tries all he can to reach the U.S Embassy in hopes of saving himself.

Netflix Beckett Cast

Beckett has a cast of talented actors including John David Washington and Alicia Vikander, who plays Beckett’s girlfriend. Vicky Krieps plays the role of a political activist who helps Beckett to reach Athens and Boyd Holbrook plays the role of Tynan, an employee at the American Embassy in Greece. Apart from them, the film also features an expansive list of supporting cast.

Netflix Beckett Plot

Beckett starts out as a romantic story of a couple vacationing in Greece. They try to make the best of their time as there is no one else to disturb them. But Beckett apparently comes across the scene of a kidnapping, and when he tries to tell the police what he saw, they claim that there was no one there and he is making it all up. Soon he becomes the target of a nationwide manhunt and he wants to cross the country to reach Athens, where he hopes to find help at the US Embassy and hopefully get out of Greece alive.

What makes Beckett special from other manhunt stories is that Beckett has no mysterious background or affiliations. He is just a normal guy who clearly had no involvement in anything that happened. The trailer also shows us how Beckett suffers multiple injuries while running away from the people who’re trying to kill him.

The story becomes more intense as the embassy might not be able to help him and Beckett falls even deeper into the conspiracy as political unrest in the country increases.

Beckett release date

You won’t have to wait too long for Beckett, as the movie will be releasing on Netflix on August 13, a few days after its world premiere at the Locarno Film Festival on August 4.

Beckett will be releasing just 2 days after Netflix’s highly anticipated The Kissing Booth 3 which releases on August 11. The movie will also be competing with other top movies such as Ryan Reynolds’ Free Guy and Don’t Breathe 2, which are also scheduled to release on August 13.
