Moviegoers have been quite excited about Dhyan Sreenivasan's new film, Detective Ujjwalan, ever since the makers announced it and released a promotional teaser last year. Before Detective Ujjwalan hits theatres, here is all you need to know about the film.

Detective Ujjwalan release date

Originally scheduled for May 16, the movie's theatrical release was postponed to May 23. It will run in theatres along with Tovino Thomas' Narivetta, Indrajith Sukumaran's Mr & Mrs Bachelor, Ranjith Sajeev's United Kingdom of Kerala and Sreenath Bhasi's Azadi.

The two-minute clip takes viewers to the village of Plaachikkaavu, which is said to be peaceful and crime-free. Meanwhile, a series of gruesome murders by an enigmatic figure known as "Boogeyman" shock the community. All things considered, the trailer indicates that the film will be an intriguing investigative thriller with several comedic aspects.

In this investigative thriller, Ujjwalan is portrayed by the Iyer in Arabia star. The film is being produced by Sophia Paul under the Weekend Blockbusters label and is directed by debutantes Rahul G and Indraneel Gopeekrishnan. Siju Wilson, Rony David, Kottayam Nazeer, Seema G Nair, Kalabhavan Navas, Ameen, Nihaal Nizam, Nirmal Palazhy, Josy Sijo, Nibraz Noushad, and Shahubas will also appear in Detective Ujjwalan in pivotal roles.

Although he is always called in for ridiculous cases, Ujjwalan, a local investigator in Plaachikkaavu, wants to solve a big one. According to the trailer, he puts his skills to use to bring down a heartless killer in his community. However, Ujjwalan's efforts are disregarded while a special investigation team looks into the matter at the same time. He remains hopeful, though, and is committed to uncovering the identity of the mysterious murderer.

The film's post-theatrical streaming rights have not been disclosed by the producers. Given that SonyLIV acquired Dhyan's previous movies, Varshangalkku Shesham and Malayalee From India, this thriller is likewise expected to be available for streaming on a well-known OTT platform.
