Detective Ujjwalan on OTT: As the Dhyan Sreenivasan film wrapped up its tale, the makers teased the arrival of Jambi, which is said to be Malayalam’ first venture into the zombie world.

The 2025 Malayalam film Detective Ujjwalan, starring Dhyan Sreenivasan in the lead role, recently made its OTT premiere on Netflix. The film is backe d by Weekend Blockbusters, which is setting up the first Cinematic Universe in Malayalam with Tovino Thomas-led Minnal Murali, Detective Ujjwalan and Jambi. And as Detective Ujjwalan wrapped up its tale, the makers teased the arrival of Jambi, which is said to be Malayalam’s first venture into the zombie world.
Detective Ujjwalan teases Jambi
Malayalam actor Dhyan Sreenivasan played the titular role in Detective Ujjwalan, which is helmed by the director duo of Indraneel Gopeekrishnan and Rahul G, who have also penned the script. After an animated dance number by Detective Ujjwalan and the boogeyman, we get a short glimpse of Jambi in the post-credits sequence.
Velichappadu, or a temple oracle, is shown as a cloud passes over the moon, and the Velichappadu too undergoes a transformation. We also see the shadow of a writhing figure behind Velichappadu, who takes on a fiery avatar, picks up his traditional sword and heads out. The sequence ends with the title Jambi, with the makers promising that the film will release in 2026. However, the makers had earlier revealed this glimpse as the Jambi first-look teaser.
George Kora is helming this movie, which also features actress-digital-influencer Pearle Maaney and Srinish. Notably, Detective Ujjwalan also features these actors in cameo roles. Jambi was officially announced in December 2024.
Another Malayalam movie to enter the zombie world is Vala, which is helmed by Arun Chandu, who shot to fame after directing Gaganachari, a science-fiction mockumentary film in Malayalam. Vala garnered much attention after the team announced that the film would mark the comeback of Jagathy, hailed as one of the best Malayalam comedy actors. Gaganachari actors Gokul Suresh, Aju Varghese, and Anarkali Marikar will also be part of Vala.
On the other hand, both Detective Ujjwalan and Minnal Murali are currently available for streaming on Netflix. Tovino Thomas stars in the 2021 superhero film, which was helmed by Basil Joseph.
