It has officially been verified that Netflix has bought Detective Ujjwalan's digital rights. The makers confirmed the official OTT release date as July 11, 2025, a day ahead of its digitial streaming debut. The investigative thriller has been produced by Sophia Paul under the banner of Weekend Blockbusters. The same OTT platform also offers their earlier productions, like Minnal Murali, RDX, and Kondal. In the meantime, no Malayalam movie has been added to Netflix in a long time. The most recent movie to make its digital premiere on the streaming site was Kunchacko Boban-starrer Officer on Duty.

Detective Ujjwalan had a theatrical release in May, along with Tovino Thomas' Narivetta and Sreenath Bhasi-starrer Azadi. While Narivetta will begin streaming on Sony LIV and OTTplay Premium from July 11, Azadi is accessible on Manorama Max as well as Sun NXT.
A 'Boogeyman' plagues Plaachikkaavu, a supposed calm, crime-free community. While an elusive foe is on a homicidal rampage, local investigator Ujjwalan, along with a group of cops and townspeople, is committed to apprehending this killer. The movie's central questions are whether Ujjwalan will learn the truth about the murderer and whether Plaachikkaavu will be able to break free from the Boogeyman's curse.
Indraneel Gopeekrishnan and Rahul Ghave helmed this movie. Detective Ujjwalan's screenplay was written by the directors themselves. Supporting cast members include Siju Wilson, Rony David, Kottayam Nazeer, Seema G Nair, Ameen Nihaal Nizam, Kalabhavan Navas, Shahubas, Nirmal Palazhy, Josy Sijo, and Nibraz Noushad.
