Srijit stuck to his opinion that Dev was not a good choice for Byomkesh, and instead, he opted for Anirban Bhattacharya and removed himself from Dev’s project. Now, Dev denied Srijit's claim that he thought of Dev as Siraj ud-Daulah.

Both of them talked about being together for the sake of the Bengali film industry. But a sudden tension erupted between them. This is further incited by Srijit's recent interview. Dev briefly expressed himself and told the media that he was not working with Srijit. He also said that he has no idea about Srijit’s Byomkesh. Birsa Dasgupta, who is the director of the Byomkesh movie starring Dev, also taunted the issue.

Srijit Mukherji was all set to make Byomkesh O Durga Rahasya for the big screen with Anirban Bhattacharya. But the project was stalled due to his difference of opinion with the production house and the producer having the rights. Then the producer joined Dev and asked Srijit to consider his opinion, but Srijit did not agree to that. Hence Birsa Dasgupta replaced him in this project. Srijit is also making the series from the same story with Anirban as Byomkesh for Hoichoi.

But Srijit claimed that he planned two future projects with Dev in mind. One of them is the biopic of Bengal's last sovereign Nawab, Siraj-ud-Doullah. But Dev negated the claim on Twitter while answering a fan's question and said, 'I am not doing Siraj. I don’t know of anything else.' The director’s claim of having talks with Dev progressed is also tagged as 'not entirely true' by the actor.

Then Birsa openly asked Dev, “How do you feel about becoming Byomkesh? When shall we see you as Siraj?” Dev answered, “Byomkesh is one of the toughest characters I have ever played. Regarding Sriraj no idea.” Birsa, in the reply, put emojis of laughter-mixed tears and claps. According to industry insiders, Birsa did this to tease Srijit.
