Dev: One hit film changed the direction of my career

Dev recently completed 18 years in the Bengali film industry. He is not only a superstar but is seen as a successful producer as well. He is busy in 2024 with his films. He gave an interview to Sangbad Pratidin where he talked about his career, politics, and 18 years in the industry.

Dev said, “I got a chance in the film Agnishapath. Then I met SVF and did the second film (I Love You) which was a hit. If it were not so, I would perhaps go back to Mumbai. I would join my father’s business, or become an assistant director, or go into modelling. I became an actor by chance. I came to Kolkata for a month. Then I spent 18 years here. When I came here, I did not know Bengali well. I learnt to read and write here.”

Dev will be seen as a janitor in Srijit Mukherji's Tekka. On the other hand, he will play a coal labourer in Khadaan. He said, “I enjoy these changes. I want people to see me as a new person in a new film. I want to do a character where people can’t imagine me. I spent 18 years here. If I want to spend 18 more, I have to reconstruct myself.”

Dev said that his character in Khadaan is the most challenging one. Why? It will be known after watching the movie.

Dev commented on the incident in Sandeshkhali. He said, “The administration should take steps so that people can stay fearless and fine.” He was summoned by the ED. He said he would do his duty and go there.
