After a tough fight, Dev won the parliament election for the third time from Ghatal by increasing his margin. He defeated the BJP's Hiran Chatterjee by one lakh and 82 thousand votes. Ghatal was eagerly waiting to see the battle between the two stars and Dev had the last smile.
During his campaign trail, Dev promised to plant trees in his constituency. However, he never mentioned any number. Now he announced that he would plant as many as the number of votes he got. The actor bagged around eight lakh 37 thousand votes and as promised, he announced that his constituency would see the plantation of around eight lakh saplings.
There has been a snake-and-ladder game between the two since the start of the counting. After the fifth round, Dev started to progress in a stormy way. At last, he finished with a margin of one lakh and 82 thousand. In the last term, Dev trailed in three assemblies out of seven in Ghatal. This time, he won all of them.
Dev reached Ghatal on Tuesday at 4 PM. The party workers were overjoyed seeing him. Dev shook hands with two ministers Manas Bhunia and Siuli Saha, MLA Ajit Maiti, Daspur MLA Mamata Bhunia, Ghatal District President Asish Hutait, and many workers. Dev said that his victory was made possible due to the relentless work of many workers. Dev said beforehand that he was winning. He assured the party workers about his victory before the counting.
Dev said that the TMC would get around thirty seats which proved correct. The workers gave slogans and celebrated with green abir (gulal) with Dev. In the press conference, Dev said 'Hiran Babu spread many lies and hatred about me in the last three months. To what benefit? I did not retort because I always believed in people's love. I have faith in people. I showed Hiran that an election can be won without hate-mongering. I trailed in three assemblies in the last election. In this term, I got a lead in all of them. I thank the workers and the leaders for this.'
