Dev reveals first look of Byomkesh Bakshi: Difficult. But not impossible

Earlier this year, Dev announced that he will be the next Byomkesh – the superhit sleuth of the Bengali film industry. His announcement came as a surprise and left the netizens divided. On Poila Boishakh, the superstar took to his social media to reveal the first look of himself as Byomkesh Bakshi. Based on Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay’s seminal work Byomkesh O Durgo Rohoshyo, the film will be directed by Birsa Dasgupta.

On Saturday, Dev took to his social media and posted the first look. He looks stunning in spectacles, a tweed jacket, and a grim face. He holds a deadly snake in one hand and a flashlight in another. After Dev’s announcement of playing Byomkesh, a large section of Bengali viewers expressed their scepticism over his acting credibility. Many netizens, including some Tollywood celebrities, mocked his decision. Along with his photo as Byomkesh, Dev wrote, “Difficult. But not impossible. Byomkesh O Durgo Rohoshyo. See you at the theatres.” He further added, “Byomkesh sets off on an exploration to discover the Biggest Mystery in Bengals History!” As per sources, Ambarish Bhattacharya may play the character of Ajit. The casting of Satyabati has not yet been done.

The film will be jointly produced by Shadow Films and Dev Entertainment Ventures. The film rights of Sharadindu’s Durgo Rohoshyo have been with Shyamsundar Dey’s Shadow films. The project was supposed to be helmed by Srijit Mukherji. Dev wished to play the lead. Srijit wanted to cast Anirban Bhattacharya. In January, Dev joined in as the co-producer and announced himself as the new Byomkesh. Along with the film, there will now be a web series on Byomkesh also. Srijit tied up with Hoichoi for Durgo Rohoshyo with Anirban as Byomkesh. As per reports, Sohini Sarkar will be the new Satyabati, and Rahul Arunodoy Banerjee, Ajit, in the web series.
