Dexter season 9: All we know so far

Dexter is definitely one of those shows that reeled audiences in immediately but left them with a frown by the final season. Fans couldn’t get enough of the first few seasons but soon, America’s favourite serial killer lost his charm in the show. The last episode of the series ended with the eponymous character living as a lumberjack, which disappointed fans. But, there’s a chance for redemption - Dexter is returning with a revival season to set things straight.

The teaser for the ninth season, which was released earlier this week, is a 30-second clip which features Michael C. Hall as Dexter. The teaser opens with a campfire burning in the woods, surrounded by snow which is being watched by Dexter, now free of the beard, who smiles sinisterly as a body struggles in a plastic bag in the background. If fans are excited about Hall returning, they’re going to be delighted to know that Clyde Phillips will also be back as the showrunner. Together, Hall and Phillips created the first four seasons of the show which are easily the best.

Phillips had revealed that the ninth season is going to have no resemblance to the original finale. Though the writer of the show is not planning on erasing the narrative built over the last seasons, his revival season will provide a more satisfying ending to the show.

The teaser, which is titled Misunderstood (and aptly so, since Rossington Collins Band’s Please Don’t Misunderstand Me plays in the background) was announced by Showtime on Twitter, with a caption that read, “He’s just a soul whose intentions are good.”

Though the 10 episodes of the ninth season will star new cast members, original Dexter star Jennifer Carpenter, who plays Debra Morgan, is rumoured to return. The actor was seen on the set on multiple occasions, sporting a lanyard that her character was last seen in.

Dexter season 9 is scheduled to release in the fall of 2021. The previous seasons of Dexter can be streamed on Voot.
