There was a lot of talk about Kangana Ranaut’s Dhaakad ahead of its release. Even after promotional strategies ahead of its release, the action thriller co-starring Arjun Rampal has had a horrible start at the box office.

According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, Dhaakad grossed only Rs 50 lakh on Saturday, taking its two-date total to only Rs 1.50 crore. With box office predictions ahead of the movie’s release suggesting that the movie could make around Rs. 3 crore on its opening day, the box office collection for Dhaakad even after two days is just half of the amount predicted.

To make matters worse, the movie, which has a number of extensive action sequences, has been reportedly made on a bigger budget. This makes the underperformance of Dhaakad at the box office even worse for the makers.

“Dhaakad is an expensive film. These days, action films are doing quite well at the box office. The awareness level around the film is decent. I would be happy if the film opens anywhere in the Rs 3 crore plus range,” trade analyst Girish Johar had told Indian Express ahead of the movie’s release.

On the other hand, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 starring Kartik Aaryan, Tabu and Kiara Advani also hit theatres around the country on the same day as Kangana actioner and has had a great opening at the box office, becoming Kartik Aaryan’s highest opening as well.

“Kangana brings a lot to the table as Agent Agni in Dhaakad but it still feels like she did not tap into her full potential for the role. On the other hand, the second female lead Divya steals the show even in her brief appearances,” reads Dhaakad’s review on OTTplay.

The action thriller, which also stars Divya Dutta, and Saswata Chatterjee, is backed by Asylum films, Soham Rockstar Entertainment, and Sohel Maklai Productions. Directed by Razneesh Ghai, the movie is now playing in theatres around the country.
